Trained and certified by the FMCSA, our doctors help keep commercial drivers safe and compliant. All medical examiners performing DOT physicals must be trained and certified by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. Both Dr. Crosby and Dr. Hinzman meet these criteria and report to the FMCSA monthly or more frequently.

What the DOT physical exam covers
Under current FMCSA regulations, the exam reviews:
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Digestion
- Lung, liver, kidney, and nervous system health
- Muscular disease or weakness
- Vision acuity
- Previous or recent injuries and illnesses
- Heart disorders
- Hearing disorders
- Respiratory issues
Things to remember
- The doctor will need a urine sample, so drink plenty of non-caffeinated liquids before your appointment. This is a test for kidney function — it is not a drug test.
- Avoid smoking and caffeine before your exam, as either can raise your blood pressure.
- Most drivers are in and out of the office in under 30 minutes.
- A DOT certification can be valid for up to 2 years.
- Some drivers may require additional testing by one of our doctors.
DOT drug collection fees
- $45 if a sealed test kit and DOT form is brought from a company or consortium we are contracted with. The collection must be performed at our location. The collection fee is billed to the employer if we are contracted with them.
- $85 if we provide the kit and our Medical Review Officer is used. This fee is the responsibility of the person being tested.
